Biotech Blueprint's new series highlighting groundbreaking startups and their visionary founders
Welcome to Startup Spotlight on Biotech Blueprint!
In this series, I dive into the inspiring stories of innovative biotech and healthcare startups and the visionary leaders behind them. Each post explores cutting-edge technologies, the challenges and successes of entrepreneurship, and the significant impacts these companies are making in the biotech industry.
Today’s post features Corra, a pioneering health application designed to transform how people manage chronic illnesses. Founded by Elya Lane, Corra was inspired by her own experiences with a rare genetic condition and chronic illness, driving her to create a more personalized, data-driven approach to health management.
Unlike other health apps, Corra blends a deep understanding of chronic illness with cutting-edge technology, providing users with a comprehensive platform to track symptoms, manage medications, and engage with a supportive community.
At the heart of Corra is an advanced AI algorithm that analyzes extensive health data to uncover patterns, helping users make informed decisions about their care. From tracking medication side effects to identifying how specific foods may relate to an increase or decrease in symptoms, Corra offers invaluable insights that empower users to take control of their health.
Navigating the complex landscape of chronic illness management can be daunting, especially when answers are elusive and the road to diagnosis is long. In our conversation, Elya Lane, CEO and founder of Corra, shared how this journey was more than just a personal battle—it was a call to action. Her experience led to the creation of a groundbreaking health application designed to transform how people manage chronic conditions.
Elya built a formidable team to support Corra’s mission, including Simeon Wilson as Chief Data Scientist, Aradhna Khivesara as Executive Vice President of Product, and Pratik Khivesara as Head of Engineering. Under her leadership, Corra has also secured a spot in Techstars Atlanta’s 2024 cohort.

A personal journey that sparked a global vision
Elya Lane’s journey began with a pivotal moment of realization. “For me, the turning point came when I realized my doctors had no more answers for me,” she recalls. “Being told there were no other solutions, no more procedures or medications that could help, left me feeling utterly hopeless. I felt like my only choices were to give up or create my own solution.”
As she navigated through a maze of conflicting advice on nutrition, supplements, medications, and lifestyle changes, Elya found herself overwhelmed. When she reached out to others in chronic illness support groups, she discovered a shared frustration that highlighted the need for a truly holistic, patient-centric tool that the healthcare system was missing.
Corra’s unique approach: Turning data into actionable insights
Unlike traditional health apps that merely track data, Corra takes a more advanced approach by transforming information into actionable insights. At its core is a custom-built AI algorithm that analyzes a range of inputs—nutrition, symptoms, medications, and lifestyle factors—to find meaningful correlations specific to each user. “Corra stands out because it doesn’t just track data—it transforms it into actionable insights,” Elya explains. “We find meaningful correlations that other apps miss. This enables us to provide highly personalized recommendations without requiring users to tag or categorize their inputs manually.”
This holistic approach sets Corra apart in the crowded digital health space. The app looks beyond surface-level data, examining the timing and frequency of symptoms and even the subtle differences in types of foods consumed. This depth of analysis allows Corra to offer nuanced insights that help users and healthcare providers make more informed decisions, fostering a proactive and preventative approach to health management.
Shaping the future of chronic illness management
The rise of digital health is rapidly changing how chronic illnesses are managed, making healthcare more personalized, accessible, and data-driven. Corra plays a key role in this transformation. “We’re identifying correlations often overlooked by traditional methods, bridging the gap in doctor-patient communication with unbiased, actionable data,” says Elya. The potential impact is profound: currently, it takes an average of 9 to 11 years for someone with a chronic illness to receive an accurate diagnosis. Elya envisions Corra slashing this to just six months, sparing individuals years of uncertainty and suffering.
The future of healthcare is personal
Elya sees apps like Corra as the future of healthcare, particularly for chronic illness management. “Apps like Corra will replace traditional healthcare models by shifting the focus toward personalized, proactive care,” she explains. By providing real-time insights, Corra enables patients and doctors to make more informed decisions, tailor treatments, and monitor progress outside of clinical settings. This approach can lead to earlier interventions, improved patient outcomes, and a more collaborative approach to chronic illness management, ultimately reducing the strain on the healthcare system.
Privacy and empowerment at the forefront
In a world where privacy is a major concern, Corra puts control back in the hands of its users. “Corra prioritizes user privacy, giving individuals full control over their data,” Elya emphasizes. Users decide what information they share and with whom-whether it’s family members, healthcare providers, or no one at all. “One of the things our users appreciate is that Corra is a small company focused on supporting the individual rather than a platform aiming to accumulate data for pharmaceutical purposes or other commercial interests.”
Collaborating for a healthier future
Looking ahead, Corra aims to collaborate with biotech companies and healthcare providers to enhance its offerings. “By partnering with biotech firms, we can integrate advanced biomarker tracking and genetic testing, further personalizing health insights for users,” Elya notes. Collaborations with healthcare providers could allow Corra to integrate into electronic health records, creating a seamless flow of data. This comprehensive view could shorten the diagnostic process, merging day-to-day lifestyle and symptom data with clinical insights like blood work and patient history.
A rewarding journey with a vision for the future
For Elya, the most rewarding aspect of building Corra has been witnessing its profound impact on people’s lives. “Hearing from users who finally feel understood and have found relief after years of struggling with chronic illness is incredibly fulfilling,” she says. Corra’s insights are not just making a difference—they’re offering hope and improving the quality of life for countless individuals.
As Corra looks to the future, the company’s goal is to become an essential tool in both personal and professional healthcare management. Corra aims to lead the way in reducing diagnostic times, enhancing communication between patients and doctors, and empowering individuals with actionable health insights. To achieve this, Corra plans to collaborate with healthcare providers, biotech firms, and insurers to integrate its data-driven insights into clinical settings.
As Corra continues to innovate, it remains committed to revolutionizing how chronic illnesses are managed, promoting preventative care, and improving health outcomes on a global scale. Currently, Corra is in the midst of a fundraising round set to close at the end of October. For those interested in making a difference in healthcare, Elya welcomes potential investors to connect with her directly here.
Corra isn’t just another health app; it’s a lifeline for those navigating the complexities of chronic illness—a beacon of hope in a sea of uncertainty.
